The Non-Profit Advocating for International Women’s Rights Through Film

women's rights

Today is International Women’s Day and as HRC once said, “women’s rights are human rights, and human rights are women’s rights.” At times it can be emotionally, physically, and mentally draining to keep up the fight for equality—especially in this Black Mirror-esque political climate. Still, it’s important to have tough conversations and work to make progress; no matter how small or irrelevant you feel your impact may be.

Instead of avoiding topics that are hard to discuss, Women’s Voices Now, a 501c3 non-profit, meets them head-on by illuminating women’s rights issues around the world through the medium of film. Through their film archive, their digital publication, The WVoice, and their international month-long online film festival, WVN is making waves and supporting activists and filmmakers alike.

If you’re passionate about women’s rights and want to make a difference, here are some ways to get involved with this generous and inspiring organization.

Watch/Vote on Women’s Rights Films

In celebration of  International Women’s Day, Women’s Voices Now has launched their 5th Annual Online Film Festival, running from March 8th – April 8th. This year’s theme, Exposed and Uncovered: The War on Women, highlights female dynamics from Myanmar to LA. You can stream the selected films and vote for your favorites here.
