5 Women In Film Non-Profits to Support This Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday

Today is Giving Tuesday; a day during the holiday season designed to be refreshingly counterintuitive to commercialism, Black Friday’s mobs and Cyber Monday’s online shopping carts. It’s a day to contribute to changes in society and bring hope to our future for the new year ahead.

2017 has been kind of a crazy year here in Hollywood. Harvey Weinstein became one of many creeps to serve as the catalyst of the #metoo movement, which will hopefully lead to a positive shift in the industry’s power structure. That, along with record-breaking films by, for, and about women (hello Wonder Woman, Girls Trip, and Lady Bird) studios are finally starting to take note. To quote Reese Witherspoon, “Films with women at the center are not a public service project. They are a big-time, bottom-line-enhancing, money-making commodity.”

This Giving Tuesday, let’s make some more waves in the film & television industry by contributing to organizations that empower diverse voices. Here are some 501c3 non-profit organizations that support women both behind and in-front of the camera.

Alliance of Women Directors

“The Alliance of Women Directors is committed to education, advocacy and career advancement for women directors in film, television and new media. Through mentorship, member networking with the creative community, educational events and advocacy we seek to address industry-wide imbalances and advance the art, craft and visibility of women directors.”
